Stepping Out in June
Join us on Wednesday, June 18th for a visit to the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown. Admission and parking are free. The museum opens at 10 AM. If you are a fan of the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, this is a wonderful opportunity to view a major exhibition providing rare and moving insight into the personal life of one of the 20th century’s most iconic artists. Through 115 photographs selected from her private albums, Frida Kahlo: Picturing an Icon allows us to see Kahlo through the eyes of friends and family, and introduces us to her complex, enthralling, and often heartbreaking life. It’s a story of tenacity, creativity, passion, and politics—with imagery of personal friendships and her alliances with global impact. The exhibition also addresses the power of Kahlo’s image today and why she has only grown in impact since her lifetime. Weather permitting, their grounds are magnificent at this time of year. Time permitting, there are 6500 items in their permanent collection and there is also the option of visiting the Jonathan Hagar House/Museum, which is just a short walk from the art museum. Our visit to the museum will be followed by lunch at Rik’s Café. RSVP to Denise Morrow at dpm17kent@gmail.com. Itinerary and travel details to follow._________________________________________
